Everything you need to know about LevelMyAudio

LevelMyAudio automatically makes your audio sound consistent, clean, and professional — in just a few clicks. You upload your file, we process it using broadcast‑standard normalization and optional cleanup tools, and you download your perfectly leveled result. No software to install, no complicated settings.

It works great for cleaning up your raw recordings before editing or for polishing your finished, already‑edited episode to make sure it sounds perfect on every platform.

If you've ever listened back to your podcast and noticed that one person sounds loud while the other sounds far away, or you've had to crank your volume up during the episode and then scramble to turn it down when an ad plays — that's exactly what LevelMyAudio fixes.

Every microphone, room, and editing setup captures sound differently. Without proper loudness balancing, one guest might boom while another whispers, and dynamically inserted ads (like those from your podcast host) can feel jarringly louder or quieter than your show.

LevelMyAudio automatically evens all of that out to professional broadcast standards, so your episodes sound smooth, consistent, and comfortable to listen to — no matter who's talking or where your ads play.

Every streaming platform — like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube — expects audio to fall within a specific volume range so listeners don't have to keep adjusting their volume between shows. These platforms quietly "turn down" or "boost" anything that's too far off target, which can make your episode sound distorted or muffled.

LevelMyAudio automatically brings your recordings to those same professional loudness standards (–16 LUFS), ensuring your show sounds clean, balanced, and consistent everywhere it's heard.

LUFS stands for Loudness Units relative to Full Scale — basically, it's how audio engineers measure perceived loudness. Unlike just looking at volume peaks, LUFS measures how human ears actually experience loudness over time.

If your podcast isn't at the right LUFS level, one episode might sound way quieter than another — or your ads might suddenly blast in much louder. LevelMyAudio normalizes your audio to –16 LUFS, the standard used by Apple Podcasts and most major platforms, so your show sounds perfectly balanced to your listeners.

Even great editors waste time adjusting overall volume and cleaning up uneven levels. LevelMyAudio handles that instantly and consistently:

  • Your editor can focus on creative work, not technical cleanup.
  • Every file comes back at the exact same loudness standard used by Apple Podcasts and Spotify (–16 LUFS).
  • You'll never have an episode that's "too quiet" or "too loud" again.

Think of it as your editor's secret weapon — fast, consistent, and always correct.

You can do either, depending on your workflow:

  • Before editing: If you want to start with evenly leveled clips, upload your raw recordings.
  • After editing: If your episode is already edited, upload the final mix to make sure it meets professional loudness standards.

Most podcasters upload their finished audio right before publishing — that guarantees every episode sounds consistent.

Not yet. Right now LevelMyAudio processes audio files only (MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A, FLAC, OGG, etc.).

But video support is actively in development — you'll soon be able to upload entire video files and get leveled audio tracks automatically. 👉 Subscribe to the Product Updates newsletter on the site to be notified when that feature launches.

Processing times vary depending on file size and selected options.

  • Short files (< 5 min): typically 1–3 minutes
  • Longer podcasts (30–60 min): usually 20–30 minutes

You'll get an email as soon as your files are ready to download, so you don't need to wait around.

You can upload most common formats — MP3, WAV, AIFF, M4A, FLAC, or OGG — and download as MP3, WAV, or AIFF at professional 48 kHz quality.

Besides leveling to –16 LUFS, you can optionally enable:

  • Voice Enhancement – makes speech clearer
  • Noise Reducer – removes hiss and background noise
  • De‑esser – tames harsh "S" sounds
  • Hum Killer – eliminates electrical hum (50 / 60 Hz)
  • Dereverb (Lite) – reduces echo in roomy recordings

Or just pick a preset ("Voice," "Music," or "Aggressive") and let the system decide for you.

Nope! LevelMyAudio is completely free right now while we continue improving the service. There's no account to create and no subscription to manage — just upload, process, and download your leveled audio.

We'll simply ask for your email address so we can send you the download links once your files are ready — especially handy for longer recordings that might take a while to process.

Processed files stay available for 7 days, then are automatically deleted for privacy and storage efficiency.
